The Enhanced Eye Examination

What it involves

Aberfeldy Opticians' Enhanced Eye Examination is our most popular and comprehensive eye health check.

This extended appointment includes an OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) scan, which creates a detailed 3D image of your retina and optic nerve. It allows our opticians to look beneath the surface of the retina, detecting even the finest changes that may indicate early signs of eye conditions—often before symptoms appear.

You'll have time during your appointment to review and discuss your results with your optician, and ask any questions you may have.

The Enhanced Eye Examination is available for £30.

Who is it for

  • Age 40+ (especially over 60): Risk of glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other issues increases.

  • Diabetics: Detects early signs of diabetic retinopathy — should be done annually.

  • Family History of eye disease: Glaucoma, AMD, or retinal conditions.

  • Eye Symptoms: Blurry vision, floaters, flashes, or sudden vision changes.

  • Existing Eye Conditions: To monitor glaucoma, AMD, macular edema, etc.

  • High Myopia: Increased risk of retinal issues — OCT helps track changes.

  • Certain Medications: Especially those like hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) that can affect the retina.

Anyone can have a scan even if it is just for your own curiosity.
